Honda e.Ny1: A Compact Crossover with a Big Personality

Honda e.Ny1: A Compact Crossover with a Big Personality

Honda has been a pioneer in electric vehicles, from the original Insight hybrid to the Clarity fuel-cell sedan. But the Japanese automaker has been lagging behind its rivals in the booming segment of electric SUVs. That's about to change with the Honda e.Ny1, a compact crossover that combines urban-friendly dimensions, futuristic design, and impressive performance.

The Honda e.Ny1 was unveiled at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show as a concept car, but Honda has confirmed it will go into production in 2025 as a global model. The e.Ny1 is based on the same platform as the Honda e, the adorable hatchback that has won many fans in Europe and Japan for its retro-modern styling and agile handling. The e.Ny1 takes the same formula and applies it to a more spacious and versatile body style, making it more appealing to American customers who love SUVs.

Design and Features

The Honda e.Ny1 is a striking vehicle that looks like nothing else on the road. It has a boxy shape with rounded edges, giving it a friendly and futuristic appearance. The front end features a large black grille with LED headlights and daytime running lights that form a continuous strip across the width of the car. The rear end has a similar design, with LED taillights that wrap around the corners of the vehicle. The e.Ny1 also has pop-out door handles and cameras instead of side mirrors, adding to its sleek and futuristic look.

The interior of the e.Ny1 electric crossover is equally impressive, with a minimalist and spacious cabin that offers plenty of room for five passengers and their luggage. The dashboard is dominated by a large touchscreen that runs the entire width of the car, displaying information and entertainment functions as well as images from the side cameras. The center console has a rotary gear selector and a wireless charging pad for smartphones. The seats are upholstered in recycled fabric and leather, and the floor is covered in wood-like material that adds warmth and contrast to the interior.

The Honda e.Ny1 is also packed with advanced technology features that make driving easier and safer. It has a head-up display that projects key information onto the windshield, a digital rearview mirror that shows a wide-angle view of the rear, and a panoramic sunroof that can be adjusted to let in more or less light. The e.Ny1 also has Honda's Sensing suite of driver-assist systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking.

Performance and Range

The Honda e.Ny1 is not only stylish and practical but also fun to drive. It has an electric motor that powers the rear wheels, delivering 201 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to propel the e.Ny1 from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph. The e.Ny1 also has a sport mode that enhances the throttle response and steering feel, as well as a regenerative braking system that recovers energy and extends the range.

The Honda e.Ny1 electric crossover has a 55-kWh battery pack that provides an estimated range of 200 miles on a single charge. That's more than enough for most daily driving needs, but if you need to go further, you can use one of the many fast-charging stations available across the country. The e.Ny1 can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes using a 150-kW charger or from 0% to 100% in about four hours using a Level 2 charger.

Price and Availability

The Honda e.Ny1 is expected to go on sale in 2025 as a 2026 model-year vehicle. Honda has not announced the official pricing yet, but it is likely to be competitive with other electric SUVs in its class, such as the Hyundai Kona and Kia Soul. Based on these models, we can expect the e.Ny1 to start at around $35,000 before any federal or state incentives.

The Honda e.Ny1 is an exciting addition to Honda's electric vehicle lineup, offering a unique blend of design, technology, and performance. It is an ideal choice for urban drivers who want an electric SUV that is easy to park, fun to drive, and environmentally friendly.

The Honda e.Ny1 is more than just a car, it's a statement of your personality and values. It's a car that shows you care about the environment, the future, and having fun. It's a car that will make you smile every time you drive it. It's a car that will make you say: "This is my Honda e.Ny1 electric crossover."
