Mercedes-Benz is not holding back when it comes to electrifying its lineup of cars and SUVs. The German automaker has already launched several EQ-branded electric vehicles, such as the EQC crossover, the EQS sedan, and the EQE sedan. It is adding some spice to the mix with the first all-electric performance SUV from its AMG division: the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is based on the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, but it has more power, more features, and more style than the standard model. It is expected to compete with other high-performance electric SUVs such as the BMW iX M60 and the Tesla Model X Plaid.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV features two powerful electric motors with up to 677 hp total output and 738 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 149 mph. It has a fully variable all-wheel drive system, an AMG air suspension, a rear-axle steering system, and an AMG-specific roll stabilization system. It also has an AMG Dynamic Plus package that offers an overboost function for extra power.
The AMG EQE SUV has a sleek and sporty exterior design with a large black-panel grille, distinctive LED headlights, flared wheel arches, and a roof spoiler. It also has an expressive AMG sound experience, creating artificial engine noises inside and outside the car. The interior is spacious and luxurious, featuring leather seats with AMG emblems, a dash-spanning Hyperscreen display, an AMG steering wheel, and a Dolby Atmos sound system.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV has a 90.6-kWh battery pack that can be charged at rates up to 170 kW on a DC fast-charger. The estimated range is not yet available, but it is likely to be similar to the EQE sedan’s 410 miles on the European WLTP cycle. The AMG EQE SUV also comes with two years of complimentary Electrify America public charging and a two-year service package with the purchase of a new vehicle.
The AMG EQE SUV is expected to go on sale in the US in late 2023 or early 2024. The official pricing has not been announced yet, but it is estimated to start at around $110,000. That makes it more expensive than the BMW iX M60 ($88,095) but cheaper than the Tesla Model X Plaid ($129,990).
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is a powerful electric beast with a soft side. It offers impressive acceleration, smooth ride quality, high-tech features, and a refined cabin. But it also has some drawbacks such as its hefty weight, lack of sharp handling compared to other AMG models, average range estimate, and high-tech driver-assists that require paying for an option package.
