Polestar, the electric performance brand owned by Volvo and Geely, unveiled its Polestar 4 compact crossover coupe at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. The Polestar 4 electric crossover coupe will compete with the Tesla Model Y and other EV crossovers in the fast-growing segment.
But the Polestar 4 is not just another electric SUV with a sloping roofline. It is a bold and innovative design that challenges the conventions of the category. It is also the quickest and most powerful Polestar model ever, with a dual-motor system that delivers 544 hp and 738 pound-feet of torque.
The Polestar 4 is based on the new Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform developed by Geely, which also underpins the upcoming Polestar 3 electric SUV and the Lotus Eletre sports car. The SEA platform allows for a large battery pack of 102 kWh, which gives the Polestar 4 an estimated range of over 300 miles on a single charge.
The Polestar 4 also features a unique rear-end design that eliminates the conventional rear window. Instead, it has a digital rear-view mirror that shows a live feed from a roof-mounted camera. This enables improved aerodynamics and cargo space.
The interior of the Polestar 4 is equally futuristic and elegant, with a full-length glass roof that expands beyond the heads of the rear passengers, who can recline in comfortable seats and control media and climate functions via a screen mounted between the front seats. The cabin also showcases Polestar's commitment to sustainability, with materials such as recycled PET knit textile, bio-attributed MicroTech vinyl, and animal welfare-secured Nappa leather.
