The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has always been the pinnacle of luxury and technology in the automotive world. But what happens when you add some AMG magic and Formula 1 hybrid know-how to the mix? You get the 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance, the most powerful and advanced S-Class ever made.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is not your typical plug-in hybrid. It's a performance hybrid that uses a handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 603 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, paired with an electric motor with 188 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, for a total output of 791 hp and 1,055 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to propel this massive sedan from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and to a top speed of 186 mph.
But the 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is not just about brute force. It's also about finesse and efficiency. The electric motor is located on the rear axle, delivering instant torque and bypassing the nine-speed automatic transmission for more direct propulsion. It also enables an all-electric driving mode, with an estimated range of around 20 miles at speeds up to 87 mph. The electric motor is powered by a 10.5-kWh battery that uses lithium-ion cells derived from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team's race cars. The battery is designed to withstand high temperatures and rapid charge and discharge cycles, thanks to an advanced cooling system that circulates liquid around all 1,200 cells.
